Dietary supplements FAQs
Q: What’s a supplement?
A: FDA defines the dietary supplement as being a pill, liquid, powder
or capsule that is intended to supply nutrients that would normally
be absent.
Q: I’m a vegan. What supplements/vitamins do I need to
stay healthy?
A: Vitamin B12, calcium, vitamin D, and iodine are the most important
supplements required by a person who doesn’t use animal products.
Q: Can a supplement cure an ailment?
A: By FDA standards, a supplement cannot claim to cure, mitigate or
treat an existing disease (because it is classified as food). Besides
that, there is not much regulation and supplement companies don’t
necessarily have to deliver on their products’ claims.
